Joshua Simmers
Licensed Clinical Social Worker
Joshua has professional experience working with foster care, trauma, grief and loss, cultural divides, rural communities, sexual assault, relationship concerns, faith issues, and religious trauma. After spending years identifying with therapists, Joshua chose to pursue his Master of Social Work from the University of North Dakota. He has worked with individuals, couples, and families across a wide range of ages, backgrounds, identities, and life circumstances, with a particular interest in the ways relationships shape our emotional well-being and capacity for healing.
Joshua incorporates Brainspotting (an outgrowth of EMDR, well suited also to Telehealth) into his work, helping clients access the brain-body connection and release the physical and emotional responses associated with trauma, difficult memories, and troubling emotions. He finds this approach can be freeing for clients as they begin to understand and move through experiences that may have been difficult to put into words.
A military retiree, Joshua strives to live his best life—with meaningful relationships, continued growth, and adventure. He rarely turns down a new experience or a new view, and he believes some of life’s best moments happen either around a table with friends or on the dance floor.
